Puppy Care Guide
Tips to help you and your new pup get off to the best possible start together.
Feeding
- •Use the same food we send home with your puppy for the first few weeks to avoid stomach upset.
- •Feed your puppy 3 small meals per day until 6 months old, then transition to 2 meals per day.
- •Always have fresh water available, and avoid table scraps which can cause digestive issues.
- •Switch to adult food around 12 months of age — ask your vet for a breed-specific recommendation.
Crate Training
- •Choose a crate large enough for your puppy to stand and turn around, but not so big they can soil one end and sleep in the other.
- •Make the crate a positive space — feed meals inside it and place treats and toys in there regularly.
- •Start with short sessions (15–30 minutes) and gradually increase the time as your puppy gets comfortable.
- •Never use the crate as punishment. It should always feel like a safe, cozy den.
Initial Vet Visits
- •Schedule your puppy's first vet appointment within 3 days of bringing them home for a wellness check.
- •Continue the vaccination schedule we provide — boosters are typically needed at 10, 12, and 16 weeks.
- •Start monthly heartworm, flea, and tick prevention at your first vet visit.
- •Discuss spaying or neutering timing with your vet — usually recommended around 6–12 months.
